What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers consist of thin plates of a tooth like material that is attached to the front of each tooth that needs a veneer. Given the fact that veneers are placed in front of the teeth they cover up all of the stains and the end result is a stain resistant, white, and bright smile. It’s cost effective and has instant results.

In addition, to covering up stains on your teeth veneers are also used for different things which include:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Misshapen or worn teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Mildly crooked teeth

The reason that porcelain veneers are able to sustain their white color because the material they are made from is stain resistant, and resistant to chipping and cracking. Usually veneers can maintain their white color for seven to fifteen years, but with advancements in cosmetic dentistry this will increase.

How Are Porcelain Veneers Placed?

During your consultation with your dentist after you have decided on veneers, they will then take x-rays and impressions of your teeth or the tooth you want to enhance with veneers. The next step would be to remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of the teeth or the tooth that will be getting the veneer.

How Long Does It Take to Get Porcelain Veneers?

After the enamel is removed this area will not be completely smooth in fact it will be a little rough to help with adhesion. Once the surface is prepped your dentist will then bond the veneers to each tooth. The process of getting veneers can take a few weeks or up to a month and it usually takes three visits.
